Charred Shishito Peppers
Looking for a fun, delicious, simple side or appetizer? Look no further – these Charred Shishito Peppers will be your new “go to” dish. These are an addictive (healthy!) treat – something about the combination of salt and olive oil plus the smoky charred crunch of the pepper makes it difficult to stop at just one…or five…or ten…. And seriously, so quick and easy. Only three ingredients, no chopping, and less than 10 minutes till awesome? Do it!
How to make Charred Shishito Peppers
Heat oil over medium-high heat in a cast iron skillet. Once the oil is hot (you can tell because it will be slightly shimmering), add the peppers and cook until they start to char, about 1-2 minutes. Continue to cook but stir occasionally for an additional 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds. How easy was that!
All About Charred Shishito Peppers
Shishito peppers are Japanese peppers that have a little heat to them, but not nearly as much as other peppers you may have tried before. Instead, they have a slight sweet, juicy, and slightly hot flavor! Be careful though—about 1 in 10 of these peppers can pack a spicy punch!
My charred Shishito peppers are a great appetizer. They are low in calories and high in dietary fiber, which helps you feel full and stay satisfied! Shishito Peppers are a good source of Vitamins A, C, and E which are good for your skin, immune system, and eyesight. Shishito Peppers are also rich in antioxidants that help fight off free radicals that damage your cells. Enjoy these nutritional benefits in my crunchy and delicious Charred Shishito Peppers!
How else can I use Shishito Peppers?
Feel free to get creative with your Shishito Peppers. Charred Shishito peppers are my personal favorite, but you can also sauté, roast, or skewer them with other ingredients. They go great with Asian flavors like sesame seeds and soy sauce. You can also pair them with a lemon aioli. How about tossing them in an air-fryer?
