Homemade Pumpkin Seed Butter only requires 4 ingredients if you use the oil and cinnamon and is a great way to use up leftover pumpkin seeds!

As we start into the winter season you may still have pumpkins laying around that you are desperately trying to use up so this is the perfect recipe for you! Pumpkin seed butter is so versatile and since it’s homemade you never have to question the ingredients and hassle with reading the labels.

What’s So Good About Pumpkin Seed Butter

As you may know, pumpkins seeds are packed with nutrition including vitamins like magnesium, minerals, plant-based protein, and fiber. 

Seed butters are also great for those with allergies that have to avoid spreads like peanut and almond butter. Be sure to read until the end for some other seed butter ideas to try! 

You can use up your leftover pumpkins to make this seed butter that you have out for fall decorations. Not only are you repurposing but avoiding processed ingredients. If you don’t have any leftover pumpkins, you can also grab some seeds from the store, however, it may be seasonal depending on the store you do your grocery shopping at.

How to Toast Pumpkin Seeds

There are two ways that you can toast your pumpkin seeds and that is by using a skillet and toast them on the stovetop or by roasting them in the oven on a baking sheet. For oven roasting, cook them until they become fragrant at 400 degrees. 

Ingredients for Homemade Pumpkin Seed Butter

Toasted pumpkin seeds

Salt

Cinnamon or syrup – totally optional but adds extra flavor and makes the seed butter a little sweeter

Oil – it helps to thin out the seed butter but isn’t required if you don’t want to use it.  

 

How to Make Pumpkin Seed Butter

Add the toasted pumpkin seeds and salt to your food processor and begin pulsating. Add in the additional spices and syrup if using.

Continue processing until the seeds begin to break down into a spread. Add oil a little at a time if needed to help reach the desired consistency. Be sure to scrape the sides occasionally while processing.

Serving Pumpkin Seed Butter

There are so many ways to serve pumpkin seed butter, but here are some of my favorite ideas.

  • As a spread on toast
  • In oatmeal
  • With yogurt bowls
  • As a dip with fruits and vegetables

How Long Does Homemade Pumpkin Seed Butter Last? 

You can store pumpkin seed butter for up to two weeks in the refrigerator when it is stored in an airtight container.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pumpkin seeds toasted
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: vegetable oil
  • Optional: cinnamon

Instructions

  • Add pumpkin seeds and salt to a food processor. Process until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides occasionally. If necessary, add small amount of oil to help smooth out the seed butter.
  • Optional: add pinch of cinnamon or other spices you like while processing.
  • Store in the refrigerator.
