While this chocolate mousse may look fancy because of the glass it’s in, really it’s one of the easiest desserts you will ever make!

I love how quick it comes together, but you can also multiply the recipe to make a batch big enough for a party or gathering.

During the fall season, pumpkin mousse is a staple around our house!

Ingredients Needed

  • unsweetened chocolate – melt before adding to the food processor.
  • whole milk ricotta cheese
  • vanilla extract
  • Honey or maple syrup – or any other sweetener of your choice such as agave.
  • Optional: espresso or strong coffee
  • Optional toppings: berries, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, mint

How to Make Chocolate Ricotta Mousse

All the melted chocolate, ricotta cheese, honey, vanilla, and espresso if using, to a high-speed blender or food processor. Pulse until smooth and creamy.

Transfer to two serving dishes and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Just before serving, add your favorite toppings.

Substitutions and Variations

Other flavors: to make a fruit mousse use whatever flavored jam you enjoy and omit the chocolate.

Chocolate: instead of melted chocolate, use unsweetened cocoa powder.

Other Mousse Topping Ideas

Fresh Berries: Top it off with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or a berry mix for a fresh flavor and pop of color.

Whipped Cream: A dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream adds a creamy texture and softens the rich chocolate flavor.

Chocolate Shavings or Chips: Perfect for chocolate lovers.

Chopped Nuts: Sprinkle some almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, or walnuts for a delightful crunch and nutty taste.

Toasted Coconut: Toasted coconut flakes bring a tropical vibe and a satisfying crunch.

Caramel or Chocolate Sauce: Drizzle some on top for an extra layer of decadence.

Dust of Cocoa Powder or Powdered Sugar: A gentle dusting not only looks great but also adds a subtle sweetness or chocolate boost.

Crumbled Cookies or Biscotti: This adds a crunchy texture and layers in more flavor, making each spoonful exciting.

How to Store

Chocolate ricotta mousse can be refrigerated for 1-2 days. We recommend serving it fresh and store without garnishes until you are ready to serve. Because it comes together so quickly, we usually make it within an hour or two before we are ready for it.
