Baked Halloumi Fries

Baked Halloumi Fries are a great high-protein snack and super easy to make! You can also use your favorite seasonings for even more flavor!

Today it is all about the cheese, but not your average slice. I am using halloumi to make crispy fries in the oven! These are simple snacks to make, and you can serve them with your favorite dipping sauce!

What is Halloumi Cheese + the Health Benefits?

Halloumi was originally made from goat or sheep’s milk, but now you can find it made with cow’s milk as well.

One serving contains up to 7 grams of protein which is great when it comes to finding a healthy snack.

A unique property of halloumi cheese is that it has a higher melting point than other cheeses. This means it can be grilled, baked, and fried without changes shapes and totally melting when compared to other cheeses.

If you love mozzarella sticks, you will quickly become a fan of halloumi fries!

Ingredients for Oven Baked Halloumi Fries

onion powder

garlic powder

ground black pepper

halloumi cheese

extra virgin olive oil

Optional: dipping sauce – I like hot honey or marinara sauce

How to Make Halloumi Fries in the Oven

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Slice the block of halloumi into slices (similar to fries). If you would rather create wedges or diced pieces, that is fine too!

In a small to medium-size mixing bowl add the spices followed by the halloumi and toss together.

Place the seasoned halloumi fries on the baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil.

Cook for 20 minutes, making sure to flip them halfway through.

Why Halloumi Cheese Doesn’t Melt

The mystery is in the way it is processed. After it is pasteurized, it gets heated for a second time past its melting point, instead of melting the cheese comes together. You can think of the process similar to poaching.

Can You Use Other Seasonings?

Absolutely! You can use whatever you would like to season the halloumi and still keep the same cooking time!

The only thing you are missing is your dipping sauces! I personally love dipping halloumi fries in marinara and hot honey. Feel free to use ketchup, honey mustard, sriracha, or any other sauce you would typically dip fries in.

Halloumi fries are best when they come straight out of the oven. Like traditional fries, you want them to be crispy and as they cool or are stored they lose that quality.
