Rum Moscow Mule

Abbie

Even though the summer is ending, Rum Moscow Mules are great in the fall too because of their spicy flavor from the ginger beer!

Moscow Mules sure are refreshing. They are (typically) served in a copper mug, with a hint of citrus from the lime, so why did I wait so long to share this recipe with you?

Depending on what type of rum you use, you can turn this classic summer cocktail into a spicy fall favorite!

Moscow Mules are served in copper mugs to keep them cold for longer, I’m sure by now you have seen someone with these at the bar. When you make these at home, you can use any low ball glass you would like!

Another reason I love this version of a rum Moscow mule is that there’s not any additional added sugar. Many cocktail recipes like this one, often use a homemade or store-bought simple syrup, when in my opinion it doesn’t really need it!

If for some reason you need a virgin version of this recipe, I have that too! Check out my Virgin Moscow Mule.

What You Need to Make a Rum Moscow Mule

Rum – you can use white or dark rum, I used white. As a side note, spiced rum and dark rum have a distinctly different flavor from white rum.

Ginger beer – Gosling’s is what I chose to use

Lime juice – fresh lime juice really makes this cocktail shine!

Garnish: slice of lime

How to Make Moscow Mules with Rum

Fill your low ball glass or copper mug with some ice.

Add the rum, lime juice, and ginger beer. Stir well.

Garnish the glass with a lime wedge and serve!

Do you need alcoholic ginger beer for Moscow Mule?

Oddly enough, even though it is referred to as Ginger beer, it doesn’t actually contain alcohol. Basically, it’s labeled as beer because of the way it’s brewed.

Can You Make More than One Serving?

If you are entertaining a crowd, I recommend you make more, because they are a party favorite! You can make a batch big enough to go into a pitcher, or because this recipe is so simple, have a mule bar where guests can make their own!

What is the best ginger beer for Moscow Mule?

Honestly, this is a personal preference because every brand is different when it comes to the “spiciness”, I chose to use Gosling’s.

What are the different kinds of Moscow Mules?

You can keep the same ingredients and swap out the rum for the traditional vodka mule, or even use tequila or gin! The other ingredients remain the same!

Can I use ginger ale instead of ginger beer for Moscow mules?

You can use ginger ale instead of ginger beer, but the taste is going to be less flavorful (spicy), so you may miss out on the mule experience!
