Homemade Hemp Seed Butter

Abbie

My Homemade Hemp Seed Butter goes great on crackers and is perfect for dipping veggies! Naturally gluten-free and nut-free, so a good alternative for those with allergies.

I am super excited to share this homemade seed butter with you! It literally takes just minutes to make, much healthier than conventional varieties you find at the store, and there are SO many ways to use it!

Hemp seeds are great for adding protein to plant-based diets. Just two to three tablespoons adds about 11 grams of protein. It’s super easy to mix in the seeds to smoothies and oatmeal, but they are even better when you make hemp seed butter with them.

They are also jammed packed with nutrients like omega 3s &6s, zinc, fiber, and magnesium. Kids with nut allergies really love having an alternative that is just as tasty as other nut butters. Hemp seeds are also vegan, paleo, keto, and kosher friendly.

What You Need to Make Homemade Hemp Seed Butter

Hemp seeds – while you can find these at the store, you should check out Manitoba Harvest!

salt

vegetable oil – totally optional but is definitely okay to use

I’m using a food processor but if you don’t have one you can use a blender as well.

How to Make and Store the BEST Hemp Seed Butter

Simply add all of the ingredients into your food processor or blender.

As the butter begins to form, stop and scrape the sides then resume pulsing.

Pulse until it is smooth and creamy.

If you are using oil slowly pour it in a little bit at a time.

This recipe makes about 1 cup of hemp seed butter, so it may not last long! Feel free to double the batch! Store in an air-tight container or a mason jar in the pantry or refrigerator for up to a month. Be sure to stir well before serving.

How To Make Hemp Seed Butter Sweeter

Hemp seed butter has a nutty flavor, so some like to make it sweeter so they can add it to their yogurt bowls, oatmeals, smoothies, etc. If you are one of those people you can sweeten it by stirring in pure maple syrup, honey, or maple sugar after you make it.

Do Hemp Seeds Contain THC?

Technically they can contain traces (if any) only due to the processing of the seeds and the fact they come in contact with the actual plant. However, hemp seeds are FDA approved and are considered safe.

Variations of Hemp Seed Butter

One thing I mentioned earlier was that the options are endless when you make hemp seed butter at home. Not only can you use a sweetener to add more flavor, here are some other additions that are yummy and healthy.

Chocolate – if you love Nutella but hate the nutrition label, you can add cocoa powder for a more chocolatey flavor. The chocolate variation also pairs well with fruits!

Cinnamon – fold in some cinnamon with the recipe version or with the cocoa powder for another great flavor
