Harissa Cod
4 ingredient oven baked harissa cod is packed with flavor, super simple to make, and makes a great weeknight meal or one for a special occasion.

Searching for a new way to enjoy cod? Harissa is the answer. While the ingredients are simple, harissa paste adds a depth of flavor that other spices don’t. I love that it comes together quickly and can be served any time.
My harissa pasta is another one of my favorites, because again it’s so easy,, but the flavor is fantastic without using a ton of extra ingredients.
What is Harissa?
Harissa is a spicy North African chili paste or sauce made from a blend of hot chili peppers, garlic, olive oil, and various spices and herbs like coriander, cumin, and caraway seeds.
Harissa adds heat and depth of flavor to a variety of dishes, including stews, soups, couscous, and grilled meats.
Ingredients Needed:
- Harissa – typically found on the international aisle in most grocery stores.
- plain Greek yogurt
- salt
- cod filets – if using frozen cod, allow them to thaw completely first.
- Optional: lemon wedges
How to Make Harissa Cod
Combine the harissa paste, salt, and Greek yogurt in a small bowl.
Rub on both sides of the cod and let it marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Grease an oven safe pan and place the marinated cod in.
Bake for 10 minutes or until the fish is nice and flaky.
Serve with lemon wedges.
Can I Use a Different Type of Fish?
While cod is readily available everywhere and budget friendly, you could swap it for other white fish varieties such as tilapia, pollock, or haddock.
What Can You Substitute For Harissa?
Sometimes people choose to swap harissa for sriracha or a spicy chili paste. However, for this fish recipe, I don’t recommend any substitutions just because the flavor is unique.
What to Serve With
We like to keep the side dishes simple when using harissa, like air fryer mushrooms, roasted air fried broccoli, or honey sriracha Brussels sprouts.
How to Store
Harissa cod is best when eaten fresh, if you have leftovers you can reheat it in the air fryer or oven until warm.

I would like to make this but don’t have an oven safe pan. Can I cook on stovetop with a cover on the pan or in an electric skillet? Thanks
Yes, absolutely can do only on the stove top! You may need to lower the heat and put a cover on to make sure the fish is fully cooked through, especially if it is a thick piece.
