If you have been around here for any time at all, you know that I love making simple healthy recipes. I just don’t believe that cooking has to be hard. So with all of my recipes, you will find that the instructions are easy to follow and you won’t be needing a ton of ingredients!
Speaking of simple, dressings are one of the easiest things to make homemade and are so much healthier than the conventional store-bought options.
Typically the only downside is that they do not last as long because obviously, we are not using artificial preservatives.
Just a tip, date syrup is a great ingredient to use when you are trying to come up with a sweet and tangy combination. Because it is filled with natural sugars and is so sweet by itself it does pair well when combined with pepper varieties and hot sauces.
What the Heck is Date Syrup aka Silan?
Date syrup comes from dates and is naturally sweetened but typically contains more minerals and nutrition than maple syrup and honey. A pure date syrup is the best because who wants to consume ingredients that you can’t even pronounce?!
The consistency is closer to maple syrup, so not as thick as honey.
Silan also has a lower glycemic index compared to other sweeteners such as sugar, honey, maple syrup, and other refined sugars.
Most varieties of date syrup are nut free, gluten free, dairy free, and vegan friendly so it fits in everyone’s lifestyle!
If you want to experiment with silan by itself, start by drizzling it over your favorite yogurt bowl or adding it to your morning oatmeal for a little extra sweetness!
