Alcoholic Butterbeer
Alcoholic butterbeer is a sweet and fizzy adult beverage, created with inspiration from the classic movie, Harry Potter! It’s fun, festive, and perfect for those who like the butterscotch flavors!
This drink is a great fall and winter recipe to keep on hand. It’s also a great party beverage, especially if it’s wizard themed!
The recipe below makes 2 glasses of butterbeer, but you can easily make as many as you need! I don’t recommend making the whipped topping ahead of time because it will lose its fluff. If you are in a party setting, you can whip the cream then transfer it to a piping bag with a star tip. This would be much easier to add to the drinks and you can keep it in the fridge in between mixing.
Let’s face it, now you don’t have to travel all the way to Disney to get your favorite treat!
What is Butterbeer?
So, honestly I’m not exactly sure what the Hogwarts students put in theirs, but in the movies it is described as tasting like butterscotch. Obviously, with the kids consuming, it didn’t contain alcohol.
In my version, the butterscotch syrup is used as a garnish, so we are making all of the flavors from scratch!

Ingredients Needed:
- heavy cream
- maple sugar or light brown sugar
- vanilla
- melted butter
- cream soda
- plain seltzer
- vanilla vodka
- butterscotch syrup for garnish
How to Make Adult Butterbeer with Alcohol
Whip the cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form using a hand mixer. Fold in the melted butter.
Pour the cream soda, seltzer, and vodka into a pitcher and mix together. Serve in 2 mugs and top with whipped cream and drizzle with butterscotch.
Can You Make Butterbeer Without Alcohol?
Yes! This party drink is great for kids and adults. Simply omit the vodka and everyone can enjoy. If you are serving both versions at the same time in a party atmosphere, be sure to keep them separated or labeled!
